Recovery

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Apparently, my mom’s shoulder replacement surgery yesterday went well, though it took twice as long as they said it would.  Surgeon reported that she had a lot of “deformity” and tightness in the shoulder, besides being very arthritic.  Talked to Mom tonight, and she says she’s feeling pretty good, just sleepy.  She gets to go home tomorrow afternoon, and has 4-6 weeks in a sling.

In a lesser situation, The Dog somehow injured a back leg toward the end of last week.  She was really hobbling around for several days (when she tried to move at all) and was happiest and most comfortable in her crate, even when we were home; but she seems to be almost fully mended now, back to her usual chipper, active self.  She does still mostly retire to the safety of her couch when we let Agent Murphy go “exploring.”  I can’t say I blame her.  I think his barbaric yawlp as he charges off in some direction or other (or after her) spooks her.  We enjoy it, though.  He’s just fun.

Play Date

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

C came over with E today.  E’s older brother stayed home with his uncle.  Last time they had a play date, they just looked at each other.  Today they did a little more, but to say they played with each other would be a bit generous.  E is 8 months old to Agent Murphy’s not quite 6 months, but Agent Murphy is bigger.  And perhaps the more dominant one.  He reached over to touch E first, and since Agent Murphy wasn’t wearing any socks of his own, he tried to pull E’s socks off.  Agent Murphy scooted and wiggled all over his mat while E mostly sat there, more interested in watching me than anything else.  Agent Murphy has to learn about sharing.  He took E’s toys and didn’t want to give them back.  It’s good he has a friend to practice with.

The Dog was quite interested in all the goings on and had to be repeatedly reminded to go on her couch and leave the boys be.

Notice and beyond

Today was a big day.  Not only did Agent Murphy purposefully look at The Dog, he also worked very hard to try to pet her.  His little arms flailed around, and if I’d hold her a bit to keep her a little closer to him, he managed to land a hand on her now and then - got the tags on her collar to jingle a couple of times, but mostly bopped her on the snout.  This is progress, though!  We try to explain that to The Dog…

Notice

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Agent Murphy spent a good bit of time looking at The Dog yesterday. This is a first for him, given that he’s only recently turned three months old. Up to now, he’d been totally unaware of The Dog, even though she frequently licked his face and sniffed him in a fruitless effort to figure out our new arrival.

Garbanzo Bean is coming along fine

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Everything looked good at today’s appointment with the midwife - and the perky midwife intern.  Apparently, the Bean is currently curled up in a rather sideways position, feet on my left side, head on my right.  But I guess that’s a relatively small rotation to a head down position, so hopefully that will happen in the next couple of weeks.  Sideways helps explain why I’ve been feeling movement where I have.

I think Garbanzo may have been a little sleepy when we went in.  Heartbeat was initially only 140.  After she used the doppler for a while, it went back up to its more normal 150.  “Hey, it’s that noisy machine again!”  Poor baby.

In two weeks I have the group B strep test done (let’s hope for a negative!), and then I think I start going in every week.

Now that Mr. Tldz’s shoulder is feeling mostly better, the changing table assembly is in progress, hopefully to be finished tonight.  Then we tackle the crib.  (Poor Addy must be beside herself with the state of the nursery.)  And there’s lots of baby laundry to be washed to be ready.  So you hang out until at least the 18th of November, okay ‘Banzo?
