Overnight

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Agent Murphy slept the night in his big boy bed.  First try at that, after napping in it for a few weeks.  It took him a while to fall asleep, but that’s true in his crib sometimes, too.  (Maybe he thought we’d made a mistake and thought it was naptime instead of nighttime.)  Other than that, no problems.  Hooray!  Well, except we had to banish The Dog from in there at night.  Poor dog.  First banished from the big bed, then her couch went away, and now this.

Maybe some interest?

Friday, July 17th, 2009

So it looks like a couple of the recent showings have generated some interest. One guy likes the house but is apparently still looking at others.  Another has requested the seller’s disclosure. Oh please, oh please, oh please let something come of this!

Meanwhile, looking forward to a fun long weekend.  Mr. Tldz is taking vacation on Monday so we can go blueberry picking.

Showings

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

We had one this morning.  So in the almost 2 weeks with the new realtor, we’ve had 3 plus two that were supposed to happen but didn’t.  Let’s hope this picks up.  Really would like to sell.  Of course, looking around at all our — stuff — makes me shudder at the thought of the actual moving process.  Ugh.  But we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.  Would like that to be our big worry.

Had another showing on short notice – making two on Thursday.  Hooray!  Now let’s get an offer!

Making salad

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

So I just had Agent Murphy help me wash a head of lettuce and tear up some of it for our salad tonight. He did pretty well with it, though I had to keep a close eye on him so he wouldn’t tip over the bowl of water.  We already had a water event this morning when he got into the bathroom and dumped The Dog’s water bowl.  You’d think after that I would have avoided more water games.  But I’m glad I let him try this.  He really seemed to like it.

Now I’m off to get our pasta sauce ready.

Speech Therapy

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Agent Murphy had his first session Monday afternoon.  He did pretty well with it, and just before the session he started doing a little better with his signs.  (Personally I’m not nuts about the sign language thing, but if it works as an intermediate step to get him talking, then great.) I’m sorry we didn’t get the therapist who did his evaluation, but the one we got seems perfectly competent.  She’s just a little bubbly for my taste, and the sing-songy voice she uses, though probably very effective for the kiddos, may make me nuts.  But anyway. We now have sessions scheduled just about every week between now and September 1. Hopefully this will be the boost our guy needs to start talking to us.

Mmm, mmm good

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

We had dill peas and Mr. Tldz’s famous lemon oven potatoes for dinner tonight. (And some Trader Joe’s grape leaves in a jar that had been hanging around for a while.  The Agent didn’t have those.)  Agent Murphy did well with his dinner, though he was slow to pick up on the potatoes.  Happy to report that the potatoes are back to their best — the recipe with which I was wooed.

Then it was cranberry pie for dessert. There were no walnuts to be had at the store this week, so we went with pecans.  We were a little dubious about how that would work, but at least at first try we think we like the pecans better.  (Hey, this is Southern cranberry pie after all!) Due to the nuts, the Agent couldn’t have pie for dessert but he had vanilla ice cream, which he slurped down to the last drop. That’s our boy!

Phone shopping

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Mr. Tldz’s personal cell phone has been on its last leg for a while.  So we set aside some money to buy a new one and he researched the models that would work for him.  We went to an AT&T store today to look at his top two choices and make a purchase.  The first store we went to had them both on display, so he was able to decide which he wanted.  When a representative was able to help us, though, it turned out they didn’t have it in stock.  They called another store to determine they had it. We went there and got the phone, but they didn’t have the case.  So we’ll have to try yet another store for that. (But the second store wasn’t able to call the third store for us to find out if they have said case.  Let’s hear it for customer no-service! So we came home and had lunch and will deal with that later.)) Meanwhile, Mr. Tldz is having fits getting the speech software he needs downloaded to the phone.  He’s just given up in frustration and gone to make pie crust.  I have to get Agent Murphy up from his nap.

It’s just too darn bad we can’t simply buy a new battery for the old phone.  But no, we need planned obsolecense. It sucks.

Napping!

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Well, after Agent Murphy’s first napping attempt in the big boy bed on Sunday, he’s struggled with it.  Monday he didn’t fuss at all going down, but he got adventurous and figured out how to wiggle past the bed rail.  Big thud.  Big wail. Fortunately, he wasn’t hurt.  By the time I got in there, he was standing next to his crib hugging his polar bear.  Tuesday he mostly just sat on the bed. He tried to stand a few times, and when I’d catch him I’d remind him there’s no standing  on the bed and he’d go back to sitting.  Yesterday, we went out to lunch (Mr. Tldz worked from home Tuesday and yesterday, so that was a little treat.) and the Agent fell asleep in the car on the way home. So of course he didn’t want to go back to sleep for his nap. But he stayed laying down in the bed and just babbled.  Today he fell asleep almost immediately and slept a full nap — 1.5 hours. (I do miss the 2 hour naps.  That extra 30 minutes felt like a lot!)  So this is progress.

I don’t know if we’ll try overnight in the big boy bed this weekend or wait until next weekend, after we get more used to actually napping in it during naptime.  We’ll see…

Big boy bed

Monday, July 6th, 2009

We recently installed a bed rail on the day bed in Agent Murphy’s room.  Yesterday he napped in the bed.  He was pretty unsure of it at first — screamed for about 10 minutes — but his cuddly polar bear helped him calm down and then he did okay.  We’ll try napping in the big boy bed this week, and if that goes okay, maybe we’ll try overnight in it this weekend.  If the Agent takes to his new bed, we’ll be able to dump his crib before we move — if and when we move, that is.  (We haven’t been thrilled with this crib.  If the Agent gets a younger sibiling, we’re getting a new crib.)

Long Weekend

Monday, July 6th, 2009

It was lovely.  We stuffed ourselves with all sorts of yummy food — huge burgers (I went a little overboard with the meat!), homemade slaw (red – Carolina style), homemade watermelon milk shakes (If you can’t get to Cookout, bring Cookout to you!), blueberry pie (the last of the berries we picked last year)…  The evening of the Fourth we watched Bull Durham, accompanied by a big bowl of popcorn and some root beer.  All in all a very relaxing weekend.  And Mr. Tldz and I are freshly coiffed as of yesterday afternoon.  (Agent Murphy will wait until next time to get his next haircut.)

The new listing of the house is up.  (Can’t say the same for the new yard sign.  Mr. Tldz and I made a couple of futile attempts, even after a little rain when we thought the ground might be softened up a bit.  Obviously there’s some trick to this that we’re missing, because brute force isn’t working.)  Had a showing yesterday afternoon.  Here’s hoping we get this place sold!
