The Shack

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

It’s the first book read by the IHM Moms Group book club that seemed worth reading.  It was quite a good read.  Riveting story, really pretty good theology.  Perhaps a little more anti-organized religion than called for, but very good.  I ended up, without meaning to, reading the whole thing yesterday.  Just didn’t want to put it down.  I found several spots very moving – like sobbingly moving.  Seemed like something I needed to get me out of my short-term funk, and my longer-term funk-in-the-background that I’ve been living with for I don’t know how long.  But I tried to talk about the book with Mr. Tldz last night and utterly failed.  Maybe I didn’t really get it, maybe it isn’t really going to help…  Remains to be seen if I’ll actually go to the book group discussion.

Woke up with a headache this morning and I feel like crap.  And I’ve decided I have to admit that anger is my drug of choice.  I wonder what I’ll have to do to find an effective rehab.  I thought I was starting to get a bit of an insight into it and handle on it yesterday, but no.

Blah

I’m just having a blah week.  No good reason for it, really..  Weather is getting warm and beautiful.  I’m just not very into it.  Currently life just feels like pointless drudgery.  I’m disinterested, unmotivated…  Not sure how to snap out of this funk.

Our realtor says we had decent traffic at the open house on Sunday, but no showings since.

Will be glad to get our final pro-life project of the year behind me.  (Then, if we actually get to move, I can hand off the leadership of the committee!)  The Mend a Heart Campaign benefiting Post Abortion Treatment and Healing (PATH) kicks off this weekend.  Hopefully the parish will actually follow through on the logistics as planned and our small, merry band of volunteers can pull this off.

Agent Murphy has decided to drool all over a puzzle piece and then use it as a tool to spread drool all over the floor and any other surface he can get to.  Yippee.

Time to go fold diapers…

Alleluia and all that

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

I don’t mean that quite as it sounds.  Easter was very good, but life has just been hectic since.

Agent Murphy stubbornly refused to sleep in his stroller at Easter Vigil Mass.  He came so close a few times, but very definitely fought it off.  But he was really tired and was getting really cranky.  So we only made it an hour and a half (the first half of Mass), so we just heard the beginning of “Alleluia” as we got to our car.  Oh well, we tried.

We had a lovely meal on Easter Sunday, and then had time to watch episodes of Matlock and Columbo.  (Traditional Easter activities, right?)  It was a good day.  But then around 10 a.m. Monday we lost power (along with much of the metro area, thanks to heavy rain followed by strong winds = lots of fallen trees).  It finally came back in the last couple of hours.  Another reason for Alleluia!  Now I just have to get caught up on everything.  At least our diaper washing schedule will be undisrupted.  (Ah, the things we are grateful for!)  And the power outage gave us an excuse to have dinner at a barbecue place we really like.

We’re getting some interest in the house (calls to our realtor, etc.), but no one has actually looked at it yet.  But we take the activity as a good sign and hope things will move along so we can make an offer on the house we want.

Househunting again

Looked at I think 9 more houses today.  Have a couple more “maybes” and I think the one that should be our house.  I’m really excited about this house!  It’s in a nice little neighborhood.  It has fantastic MARTA access for Mr. Tldz and a floorplan that meets all of our needs, with lots of space we can work with to configure for future needs.  Our realtor is going to check with the listing agent to see if there’s a possibility of an offer contingent on the sale of our house.  (We just have to pray really hard that we get some interest in our house and a decent offer really soon!)  The information on the listing says the owner has relocated.  We’ll see…  Hopefully Mr. Tldz can go look at it with me next Friday, since that’s his last day at the old job and I’m picking him up mid-afternoon anyway.

A Sunday in the life of the Tldz household

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

We are now the proud owners of an 8′ pew from our old church.  It’s stashed in the basement.  Hopefully whatever house we move to will have a nice spot for it.

Just got done icing a batch of Almond Joy Biscotti.  It’s our first flavor experiment, working off the basic biscotti recipe we have.  The author of that cookbook (all desserts) suggests one have an icing spatula, so we procured one around the time we got married.  Never actually used it until today.  What a great thing!  Now we’re waiting impatiently for the chocolate to set so we can try these guys out.  The half-baked ends of the dough rolls tasted pretty good, though, so that’s promising.

Agent Murphy woke up Friday with his nose all coated over with snot.  He’s had a runny nose ever since, but at least this morning his nose wasn’t all caked up; so hopefully he’s on the mend. (He’s currently nearing the end of a much-needed nap.)  I seem to have come down with a bit of a cold, too.  I don’t know if I gave it to him or he gave it me or we caught it together.  I ought to be napping, too…

We were concerned about the length of Palm Sunday Mass (officially Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion) with the Agent’s not feeling quite up to snuff, but he did amazingly well this morning.  Maybe this bodes well for a good Holy Week.  We’re actually planning to go to Easter Vigil Mass, hoping we can get Agent Murphy to go to sleep once we get there and sleep through it, since it starts after his bedtime.  (We’d love to participate in all of the Triduum services, but we figure that would be pushing our luck.)  We may be leaving Mass after a brief time, or we may make it through all three hours.  We shall see.  I should probably go find him some cute Easter pajamas to wear for the occasion…

Househunting

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Put in a full afternoon yesterday, on top of the full day last week.  Have now seen 21 houses and we have 2 that are “maybe.”  Another bunch of houses to look at this coming week.

As for selling ours…  So far one call, but then they didn’t actually come to look. Our realtor is going to hold an open house for MLS agents on Tuesday, and then probably an open house the Sunday after Easter.

House for sale

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

We are now officially listed.  At least, I’ve signed all the paperwork, we have signs in the yard, and a lock box.  I’m not sure if everything was uploaded yesterday or not, so I’m not positive we’re showing up on the online listings yet.  Here’s hoping we get some interest quickly.

N. has graciously agreed to watch the Agent this afternoon, so our realtor and I can do another run around looking at potential houses to buy.

Celebrating The Day

I’ll have a new employer in a few weeks. I gave notice at the current job today. Events continue to confirm that switching is a good idea.
