Fun Day!

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

We were supposed to host play group, but only the play group coordinator and her son were going to be able to come.  So we decided we’d meet up at the local playground this morning instead.  Agent Murphy had a blast.  He loved going on the slides.  He went on the little kid slides some, but he decided he likes the bigger, curvy ones better.  After he did the slides for a while, he humored me and let me push him on the swing for a bit.  He seemed to like it, but he really wanted to get off and go back to the slides.

Then this afternoon there was supposed to be a MOMS Club ice cream social at our local Maggie Moo’s.  Hadn’t heard of the place before, but it was pretty good.  We didn’t, however, see anyone else we could identify as part of the MOMS Club; so it was less social and more ice cream.  The Agent enjoyed his strawberry cone with rainbow sprinkles.  He got to use the “dripstick” we got him at the Mayfield Dairy last summer and he did pretty well with it.  He was still a mess, but that’s the fun of it.  Maggie Moo’s is giving out free samples of ice cream pizza on Thursday afternoon/evening, so we may need to make a family trip of it for dessert.

So Agent Murphy and I made it to our MOMS Club play group for the first time yesterday, after the first two of 2010 were canceled.  It was all little boys this time, and I think he had a good time.  Hopefully next week’s will happen as scheduled, and we’re hosting in 2 weeks.

Book Club

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

So I actually made it to my first MOMS Club event last night.  (Just about everything I’ve tried to attend has been canceled, and then for the Christmas cookie exchange I ended up sick.) We met at Cafe Intermezzo to discuss The Help by Kathryn Stockett.  Jodi, the mom who was leading the book club, asked for volunteers to take on future meetings, so I told her that I’d be willing to host/lead the next one in March; and then yesterday afternoon Jodi had to back out so I ended up “leading” this one, too.

There ended up being just 3 of us, and we’d all actually read and enjoyed the book, so we had a good, informal, pleasant discussion.  It was a bit of an adventure, because none of us knew each other, but we managed to meet up at the restaurant.

We’ve selected The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger as the next book, and I expect I’ll host that get-together here at the house.
