Bad mood

I am in a horrible mood.  I guess I wasn’t doing too great, yesterday, either. I keep crying.  Given my wretched mood, I’ve wanted very little to do with The Agent and his antics.  But that sweet boy brought one of his diaper wipes to wipe away my tears.  I don’t know how he’s such a good kid given the crappy mommy he’s stuck with.

I’ve gotten very little done so far today, and I have to try to get ready to host play group next week.  I was hoping to get some artwork up before then, not to mention cleaning, so our house won’t look so pathetic.  (It’s a pitiful little place compared to the mansions some of these women have.  Good heavens — we don’t have a dedicated playroom!  I wonder if we’ll be allowed to stay in play group?)  Agent Murphy has a bit of a cold.  Maybe if he stays sick, I can cancel like just about everyone else has done.  (It’s supposed to meet every week. There was one in the month of January.)

January is a hard month for bad moods. Less sunlight, cold temperatures, post-holiday blues, and wanting things to change in 2010 but things remain rough. Tomorrow could always be better.

Keep the Agent warm. We’re a house of two pneumonia patients, so it’s serious business. (( Okay, S has diagnosed pneumonia. I have a doctor appointment Thursday ))

Don’t let the other ladies’ houses get you down. The playgroup in my neighborhood is similar. A lot of them have playrooms or have turned their basement into a playroom. We have the 4 rooms that we really live in – the kitchen, dining room/living room, hallway and the boys’ room. We try hard to keep them out of our bedroom, but it has been a challenge. I will try to call you on Friday, when the boys are occupied.

Yeah, I know. Our house is fine. Nice even. It’s just painfully obvious that we’re on the low end of the Dunwoody socio-economic ladder. These women just seem to have all kinds of money to throw around. Even at our church. The moms group does this social that costs $20, that social that costs $10… (And the moms group nickels and dimes us for charitable donations all the time, too — bring a toy for this, canned food for that. I don’t mind a little bit of that. It’s appropriate for a church. But, hello, we have a significant line item in our monthly budget for charitable contributions to causes we care about; we gave already!) Many parish-wide activities seem to have some sort of fee attached to them, too. (The pastor changed his mind and decided not to charge for the book for the upcoming parish mission; otherwise that would’ve been $10, too.) We actually had to eek out some money in the budget for a small monthly “socializing” line so we can occasionally participate in stuff.
